The Challenge

This e-commerce business was leaving money on the table. Their Shopify store had an outdated theme, a clunky checkout process, and virtually no mobile optimization. With a 1.2% conversion rate and 78% cart abandonment, they were losing customers at every step.

The owner knew something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint the issues. Customers complained about slow loading, confusing navigation, and checkout errors on mobile devices—where 70% of their traffic came from.

Their existing setup had several critical problems: a bloated Shopify theme with 40+ unused apps still loading scripts, no guest checkout option, limited payment methods, poor product photography presentation, and zero email marketing automation. They were running Facebook ads but most clicks bounced within 3 seconds due to slow loading.

The Solution

We took a surgical approach to optimization rather than a complete rebuild. The goal was maximum impact with minimal disruption to their daily operations.

First, we conducted a comprehensive store audit identifying 47 specific friction points across the customer journey. We prioritized fixes by potential revenue impact and implementation effort, creating a roadmap that would show results within weeks, not months.

We rebuilt their product pages with a custom Next.js storefront powered by the Shopify Storefront API. This headless approach gave us complete control over performance while keeping their familiar Shopify admin for inventory and orders. Page load times dropped from 5.2 seconds to under 2 seconds immediately.

The checkout experience was completely redesigned: guest checkout by default, Apple Pay and Google Pay added, progress indicators, and trust signals placed strategically. We implemented smart upsells and cross-sells that increased average order value without feeling pushy.

Finally, we integrated Klaviyo for email automation. Abandoned cart sequences, post-purchase flows, browse abandonment emails, and a welcome series now generate 22% of total revenue on autopilot. Every email was designed to match their brand and feel personal, not spammy.
