The Challenge

The trading card market has exploded, but getting cards professionally graded is expensive and time-consuming. Collectors and prep labs needed a way to pre-screen cards before submitting to grading companies—saving money by only submitting cards likely to receive high grades.

I built CardGrade.io as a SaaS platform that uses AI to analyze card images and predict grades. The platform also provides pricing data and collection management tools.

AI Vision Analysis

Machine learning model that analyzes card images to predict grades, detect defects, and estimate centering.

Technical Implementation

Frontend: React with TypeScript, built for speed and responsiveness. Complex state management for multi-step analysis workflows.

Backend: Node.js API with MongoDB for user data, subscriptions, and analysis history. Python microservice for ML inference.

AI/ML: Custom TensorFlow model trained on thousands of graded card images. Detects surface defects, centering issues, and corner wear.

Payments: Stripe integration with subscription management, metered billing for API usage, and automated invoicing.
